We reviewed six GoStudent sources on August 19, 2026. We did not open an account, take a trial, buy a package, test a tutor, or measure outcomes. Company practices below are attributed to GoStudent rather than presented as independent findings.
What Is GoStudent?
GoStudent is a managed online tutoring service for school-age students. It offers live 1:1 lessons in a virtual classroom and matches learners with tutors based on subject needs, level, goals, and personality. The reviewed UK materials describe 50-minute private lessons, recurring packages, and subjects including maths, sciences, English, languages, and other school areas.
This is different from a directory where parents contact any tutor and negotiate directly. GoStudent places more of the matching, billing, classroom, and support process inside one service.
Who Is GoStudent For?
GoStudent may fit a family that wants:
- regular one-to-one online lessons;
- help matching a student with a tutor;
- a free trial before choosing a package;
- support in core school subjects;
- a managed virtual classroom; and
- a recurring schedule rather than occasional homework help.
It may be less suitable for families who want single lessons without a package, need transparent pay-as-you-go pricing, live outside an active GoStudent market, or prefer to compare and hire tutors directly.
How GoStudent Works
The How It Works page presents a three-stage process: discuss the learner’s needs, try a free lesson, then select a customized package if the experience fits. GoStudent says it matches based on personality, learning level, and goals.
Lessons take place online with live video and digital collaboration tools. The service describes a virtual classroom with whiteboard, screen sharing, file sharing, and recordings. Families should use the trial to check both the tutor and the technology on the device and connection the student will actually use.
GoStudent: Tutor Matching and Continuity
A managed match can reduce search work, but a parent should still evaluate the tutor. During the trial, check subject knowledge, communication, pacing, preparation, rapport, and experience with the student’s age.
Ask before enrolling:
- Will the same tutor teach every recurring lesson?
- What happens if the match is poor?
- How quickly can a replacement tutor begin?
- Can the tutor maintain the preferred schedule?
- How is progress communicated to parents?
- What happens to credits during tutor illness or absence?
A successful trial is useful evidence, but it does not guarantee long-term availability or results.
GoStudent: Tutor Qualifications, Vetting, and Safeguarding
GoStudent’s published safeguarding policy says tutors provide a valid background check, pass subject-specific tests, and complete a group interview or introduction video. Accepted tutors also complete onboarding and agree to a code of conduct.
The policy describes reporting paths for inappropriate conduct and advises ending an active session, informing a guardian, using the Safety Centre or safeguarding email, and contacting authorities where necessary. These are meaningful stated controls. This review did not inspect background-check records or audit implementation, and the cited policy is dated September 2023.
Parents should keep lessons on-platform, supervise early sessions, avoid sharing unnecessary personal information, and ensure the child knows how to end and report an uncomfortable interaction.
GoStudent: UK Pricing and Packages
GoStudent’s UK pricing page advertises 50-minute lessons and prices starting from £22.71 per lesson. It also shows example 12-month arrangements at different lesson frequencies. The FAQ gives a different private-tutoring-unit range, from £24.99 to £38.99 depending on membership.
Those figures are not fully reconciled in the reviewed pages. They may reflect different frequencies, package terms, or offers. Treat them as examples, not a guaranteed quote.
Before agreeing, request a written summary of:
- price per lesson and total package cost;
- lesson frequency and minimum term;
- billing and recharge dates;
- discounts and when they expire;
- credit expiration and carryover rules;
- rescheduling and no-show rules;
- renewal and cancellation deadlines; and
- fees triggered by early package changes.
GoStudent: Trial Lesson
GoStudent advertises a free, non-binding trial without a card or commitment on its UK pricing page. Use it as a structured evaluation, not only an introductory call.
Bring a real assignment or learning goal. Observe whether the tutor diagnoses the problem, involves the student, explains clearly, checks understanding, and outlines realistic next steps. Confirm that the tutor seen in the trial is the tutor expected for regular lessons.
GoStudent: Credits, Renewals, and Cancellation
The UK FAQ and terms describe lessons as credits attached to a package and billing cycle. Unused credits generally do not carry indefinitely. The terms also describe a 14-day cancellation right under specified conditions, proportional charges if lessons have already begun at the user’s request, and additional package-specific renewal rules.
After the cooling-off period, ending a package may be more restrictive. The FAQ says cancellation after a minimum term should be submitted before renewal. Because the applicable deadline can depend on the package, do not rely on a general summary: read the exact contract and save it before accepting.
GoStudent: Privacy
GoStudent’s UK privacy policy identifies GoStudent Online Tutoring GmbH as the controller and describes data sharing with the relevant tutor and service providers used for hosting, video, communication, customer management, and payments. It states that Stripe handles payment processing and that contract-related records may be retained according to legal obligations.
Parents should ask whether lessons are recorded, who can access recordings and messages, how long student data is retained, and how to request access or deletion. A privacy policy is a company statement, not an independent security audit.
GoStudent: Strengths

- Less direct selection: Managed matching gives families less initial control than an open directory.
- No hands-on evidence: We did not test tutoring, matching, support, or outcomes.
GoStudent vs. Direct Tutor Selection
GoStudent offers a managed match, package, and classroom. A direct directory lets parents compare educators themselves and contact the chosen tutor. GoStudent may reduce search effort; direct selection may provide more control over credentials, rates, availability, and contract terms.

Verdict: Is GoStudent Worth Considering?
GoStudent is worth considering for UK families seeking recurring 1:1 online tutoring with managed matching and a free trial. Its published safeguarding process and integrated classroom are useful strengths.
The decision depends heavily on the exact package. Ask for a written quote, reconcile the total cost, verify credit and renewal rules, read cancellation terms, and use the trial to assess the actual tutor. Families outside the UK should first verify local availability and locally applicable policies.
Choose GoStudent when managed matching and recurring structure justify the package commitment. Choose direct tutor selection or pay-as-you-go support when control, regional availability, or billing flexibility matters more.
